Matriculated from Highland North High School, Johannesburg 1963. Did my military training in Bloemfontein and Walvis Bay in 1964. Graduated from Onderstepoort in 1970 and obtained an Honours degree in 1979
Received the Maybaker Clinical Prize for final year student and the Pfizer prize for practical talent and skill
Started practice at the Orange Grove Veterinary Hospital in 1970 and became a partner in 1973.
Chairperson and Executive member of the Witwatersrand branch of the SAVA from 1975 – 1982.
Was a member of the National Clinicians Group Executive Committee from 1976 to 2002 and currently an advisory member of the committee.
Was an elected member of the South African Veterinary Council from 1982 to 1991.
Vice chairperson of the organising committee of the 13th World Buiatrics Congress held in Durban in 1982
Chaired the organising committee of the 19th World Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress, which was held in Durban in 1994.
Member of the editorial committee of Vetmed from 1993 to date

Received full colours for hockey and cricket at school. Represented Southern Transvaal Schools hockey in 1962/63. Received a full blue from the University of Pretoria for hockey and represented South African Universities Hockey. Captained the Transvaal Cricket Board team 1971-1972 and received the Jack Cheetham Trophy presented by the Transvaal Cricket Union for sportsmanship
Interest includes veterinary politics, playing and watching sport, playing bridge and travelling.
Married to Isabel and have three children and five grand children
